Giant leap for Mankind

In what was a historic landmark for mankind, Curiosity, the rover blasted into space by NASA found its feet finally on a crater in the Red planet. Amidst great expectations and nerve cracking moments of tension, the rover reached speeds of 13000 miles per hour after being absorbed by the gravity of the planet.
Described as "seven minutes of terror" by its own makers, there was a hell lot at stake and the landing of the rover was nothing short of a scintillating climax in a super hero movie. As the parachute released the speed got toned down considerably, but still nothing could be taken for granted. This was a moment for which billions of dollars and loads of hard work were pumped in and failure was not an option. The descent of the 1 tonne rover went without any flaws and soon it was touchdown time.
The moment was greeted with much cheers and congratulations but deep inside each of them knew this was only the beginning. Curiosity reciprocated the happiness by sending in some pics of the alien planet. This was just one of the many tasks it has been sent out to do among others such as collecting soil samples, water samples and study the climate. How far this would be a success is not very clear at the moment but now humans have managed to touch the soil of Mars and get a slight grip on it. Its only a matter of time before they dig holes and spice up real estate on the red planet.
